Radio Station Program - August 1951

In the early days at WILE the programs were cut on large platters such as this. Some were even larger. In order to play them today, the edges have to be cut down to fit on an old record player. Some played from the inside out. We have several of the old platters.

The Musical Farmers assembled one evening each week to cut the 15-minute programs for the 12:15 p.m. show that played each weekday and on Saturdays part of the eight years the group performed. At the beginning the show only played on Saturday at 12:15.

Names of people from the station are hard to recall for I was a small child. I remember that Howard Donahue was the owner of the station. He had a daughter named Barbara. Another person I remember from the station was Donald George. Our first and most memorable announcer was Dave Lorimer. Dave gave blood when my mother, Evelyn, had surgery at the birth of my sister, Diane Bond, at St. Francis Hospital. That is what is being described at the beginning of this record.

Laura Bates was always a fan and supporter in those days. Al Engle was the engineer at the station as was Don Abbott who recently found us on Facebook.
