The Musical Farmers

Left to right: Front Row - Dallas Bond & Gerald "Buttercup" Hill
Row 2 - Alva Adkins; Evelyn Miller Bond Everly; Steve Polascak; Flavil "Flannels" Miller

Dallas Bond and the Musical Farmers was the first "live" music group to perform on radio station WILE in Cambridge in the late 40's. The group continued to perform each weekday and Saturday at 12:15 for the next eight years.

The group was composed of Dallas Bond (kneeling on left - my father - now deceased); Gerald Hill (comedian, mandolin and bass - on right - now deceased). In the back row are Alva Adkins, guitar - now deceased, Evelyn Miller Bond (singer - my mother - now deceased), Steve Polascak (accordian - now deceased) and Flannels Miller (fiddle-now deceased).

The Musical Farmers performed at county fairs, schools, and many other functions in the area. The group disbanded in the late '50's.

Two reunions were held at our home in the 90's. We called it "Hammerin' on the Hill" and had a great time playing music from the old days.

Other members of the group over the years were: Shorty Hackley, guitar (deceased); Clyde Fogle, fiddle (deceased); Leonard Patterson, bass (deceased); Floyd Baker, singer & guitar (deceased); Joe Stillions, fiddle (deceased); Clarence Stack, singer & guitar (deceased) and Bob Farson, fiddle (deceased).

That little girl in the front is the writer of this blog. (Deloris, daughter of Evelyn and Dallas Bond)
